Field Trip June 11

Please mark Tuesday, June 11 on your calendar for a Grade One and Two field trip.  We will be going to The Putting Zone in Bud Miller Park and Explosion gymnastics.  The Putting Zone portion is weather permitting, of course.

I will send detailed information on Friday.  Parents must complete and return a Waiver Form from Explosion gymnastics.

Track And Field etc

It was great to have such a beautiful day for Track and Field!  The students tried hard and, mostly importantly, were good sports!  I was proud of them!

We still need ice cream pails!  Please send some if you have them.  They don't need lids.

Remember:  all students need outdoor running shoes for PE every day.  Make sure they bring them if they wear flip flops to school.

Congratulations to Jonathan, Izzy, Lexi, and Keenan!  The only students to score 100% on spelling Unit 28!  We have only two units left and then 2-3 review tests.

Update!

I will be away Monday so I just wanted to update you on Track and Field.
Elementary Track and field will be held Tuesday, May 28 weather permitting.  If it is raining it will be postponed until May 30.

New gym update - The workmen are supposed to arrive on Monday so we have alternate sites for some of the track and fields events as needed.

Students need:
  • outdoor running shoes
  • sunscreen
  • hat
  • bug spray
  • money for concession and/or lunch
Parents and siblings are welcome!  There will be no parent relays this year as the track is in poor condition and we don't want injuries!  Sorry to all you keen athletes!

Mrs. Tenney will be in and there will be information on the MOnday memo as well.  Have a great weekend!

Tuesday Update

In the spring, at the end of the day,
you should smell like dirt.
Margaret Atwood

Hope all the wonderful Grade One moms, grandmas, aunties, etc had a fabulous Mother's day!

I watched my youngest, Lindsey, (who just turned 18 last week)  play Woody in Alison Lamont's dance recital's version of Toy Story 3.  If you are familiar with the story, you know it's about Andy, all grown up, moving away to college and leaving his beloved toys behind.  Needless to say, this mom was pretty emotional!  Hit a little too close to home!  But, I remind myself that, if you have done your job, they leave home with confidence, well-prepared to meet the joys and challenges of life ahead!  Where did the time go?!!!

Hope you enjoyed your 'homes'!  They have been sprayed and can go outside in a shady spot.  I have some my daughters made years ago and I put them up in the spring and take them down in the fall and they still look great.

Lots of 100% in spelling this week:  Congratulations to:  Emmet, Lexi, Keenan, Izzy, Jonathan, James, Tori, Hailey S., Aiden and Hailey W.  Great work!!!!   Remember:  4 levels left and then 2-3 review tests.

Supplies needed:  The grade 3 class has offered to teach us how to my 'Hairy Heads" on Friday!  Each student needs an individual yogurt container and a pair of nylons (not tights).  We stuff the nylon with soil and grass seed and set it on the yogurt container which is filled with water.  The seed sprouts and we have a 'Hairy Head".  They will be fun!  We need the nylons and yogurt containers on Friday please.  Send extra if you have them!

Also, we have 5 ice cream pails but we need one for each student.  We need these by the end of May, thanks!

Have a great week!

Happy Mother's Day for all the terrific grade one Mom's and Grandmom's!

“When God Created Mothers"

When the Good Lord was creating mothers, He was into His sixth day of "overtime" when the angel appeared and said. "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."

And God said, "Have you read the specs on this order?" She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 moveable parts...all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. A kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And six pairs of hands."

The angel shook her head slowly and said. "Six pairs of hands.... no way."

It's not the hands that are causing me problems," God remarked, "it's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have."

That's on the standard model?" asked the angel. God nodded.

One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks, 'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and say. 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word."

God," said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "Get some rest tomorrow...."

I can't," said God, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick...can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger...and can get a nine year old to stand under a shower."

The angel circled the model of a mother very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.

But tough!" said God excitedly. "You can imagine what this mother can do or endure."

Can it think?"

Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her finger across the cheek.

There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told You that You were trying to put too much into this model."

It's not a leak," said the Lord, "It's a tear."

What's it for?"

It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride."

You are a genius, " said the angel.

Somberly, God said, "I didn't put it there.”
Erma Bombeck, When God Created Mothers

Finally, congratulations to the whole Grade One class for placing first in the Choral oratory.  Also, well done to Jonathan, Tori, Caybrie, Aiden, Lexi and Hailey W. for presenting their individual oratories.  They all did by far the best they have ever done.  Jonathan received a first in Individual and Aiden, Lexi and Hailey got first, second and third.  I was very proud of my whole class and they played very well with the Marshall Grade one class.

Spring at Last! Oratory Update!

It's spring fever.  That is what the name of it is.  And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!

 ~Mark Twain

Well, Spring is here!  How wonderful!  Just a few reminders:  The students MUST have outdoor shoes each day for gym so if they wear flip flops make sure they have their outdoor shoes as well.  Also, we live in Saskatchewan so the weather changes in an instant - make sure they have a jacket each day.  Thanks!

Sunshine!!!!

What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity. These are but trifles, to be sure; but scattered along life's pathway, the good they do is inconceivable.”
Joseph Addison

Yeah!  Spring is here!!!  Perhaps we Saskatchewanites appreciate spring all the more after this brutal winter!

Ice Cream pails - we need pails for a project (a big secret).  They do not need to have lids.  If we could have them over the next few weeks that would be great.

Have a wonderful spring weekend!
