A Final Blog for this school year!

I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful summer break and enjoy your terrific children!  I am sad to end the year because I wish miss my little crew!  They have been so much fun!  But I am very proud of them and know they will love Grade 2!
Thank you to all the parents for your support of the Grade One program and your positive attitudes! You are the BEST indicator of your child's success.  I know you will continue to support your child's learning in the years to come.
Enjoy your summer!

Concession reminder

As noted on the Monday memo, there is very little food available for sale in the concession as the junior high and senior high students are not attending full time after Thursday.  Please send a lunch.  Thanks.

June 20 First Day of Summer!!!!

Thank you to the parents who drove and came to our field trip at Explosion Gymnastics!  The kids really enjoyed it.  Thanks to Connie Mitchell for picking up the popsicle treat for us.

A few important notices:

1.  Sandy Beach forms were due on Tuesday.  I've resent a few so please make sure to have them back tomorrow.

2.  Elementary Awards in am on Thursday.  The Grade one's will be performing their Oratory choral poem.

3.  Bike rodeo - Thursday pm.  It's been on the Monday memo and a note went home yesterday.  Hopefully, everyone can make arrangements to bring a bike and helmet (any kind) for today by noon.

4.  Summer Olympics fun day Monday, June 25.  Parent volunteers would be great so if you can spend all or part of the day let me know as I'm organizing it.  Children might want to bring an extra set of clothes as they could get wet!!!!!!!!

5.  Report cards will go home on Monday, June 25 for Grade one

6.  Sandy Beach on Tuesday.  Please read information sent home carefully.  I have added it again to the end of this blog.

7.  Putting Zone refund - look for the $3.00 refund in your child's pouch.

SANDY BEACH INFORMATION

The Kindergarten, Grade One and Grade Two classes plan to go to Sandy Beach
on Tuesday, June 26, for our year-end field trip.  We will leave from the school at approximately 9:30 to arrive at Sandy Beach at 10:00.

Please note:  We will not be taking a bus this year.  We will require parents to transport their own children to Sandy Beach if possible.  We will be able to transport a few students in teachers’ cars (Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. Burzynski and Mrs. Tenney)
If your child is unable to travel with you or another parent, we will need to know this so transportation can be arranged.

We will leave Sandy Beach at 2:00 to return to the school.  In case of poor weather, we will decide whether or not to cancel in the morning after the students arrive.  Then parents can transport their own children to school instead, if they wish.

We must have Parent Volunteers for this trip.  Northwest School Division Policy requires 1 adult for each 4 students.   We will NOT be providing a lifeguard so parent help is essential.

Attached is a Permission Slip and Transportation form.  This needs to be returned by Tuesday, June 19. If we do not have enough parents willing to help supervise and transport students we will cancel as of Wednesday, June 20.
Each parent supervisor will be required to supervise their own children.  We will also ask parents to supervise 1 or 2 additional children as needed. You must have your full attention focused on the children you are supervising so we ask that you do not bring pre-schoolers unless you have made arrangements for another adult to supervise them for you.

Potluck Lunch – in the past our Potluck lunch has been a big hit!  Each family provides a small plate of food such as meat and cheese, crackers, cut-up fruit, veggies and dip, pizza slices, sandwiches, cookies, etc.  The school will provide juice, plates, and cups.  Please be aware that the ‘Nut-free” rule applies to all food.

Beach Rules – we ask that students come to school with suncreen already applied.  If you feel your child needs a lifejacket, please send one.  They may bring sand toys such as buckets, pails, shovels etc.  Please do not send water toys such as inflatables, beach balls, water guns etc.  They will not be able to bring them to the beach. We need to focus on the children in the water: not rescuing toys or watching for water guns.  Parents will also want to bring a chair to the beach, etc.

Allergies –If your child has an allergy to bees, etc and requires an Epi-pen, please make sure his or her teacher is aware of it and an Epi-pen is sent from home.

Thank you for your cooperation.  This is a really enjoyable activity for the children but, of course, our first priority is for the safety of the students.  Please call us if you have any questions.

June 11-15 update

Important Dates:

Monday, June 18 Field Trip - please return permission slip and $7.00 fee before Friday.
Monday, June 18 Spelling test - we will have the second 25 word spelling test in the morning before the field trip.
Monday, June 25 Summer Olympics - K-6 fun day
Tuesday, June 26  Sandy Beach field trip -K-2 - note will be sent home this week.

Field trip
I have received 5 permission slips so far.  At the present time, we do not have enough drivers to transport the students.  Please return your slips so I know if we can go ahead with it.  At the present time there are only enough drivers for 7 students.  Thank you.

Spelling tests today.
Some children did very well on the first spelling test of 25 review words.  However, it was very apparent that some children did not study at all or did not study enough.  Please make a commitment to study with your child.  I have recorded his or her mark in the agenda with a copy of the test.  The words were sent home in the agenda as well as posted on the blog.  Next test is Monday, June 18.

Home Reading books
This is the last week that I will send home books.   All books need to be returned by June 18. Next week I will benchmark the students to determine their final reading level.

Library Books - still a few books to return so look hard at home.  If you can't find the book, please contact Mrs. Shirtliffe directly.

Craft Fee
I would appreciate it if the parents who have not paid the  $8.00 craft fee could please do so.  I have received payment from only 8 parents which means that I have spent $56.00 for supplies personally.

Supplies needed
We would like to make dioramas for our First Nations unit.  Each child needs to bring a shoebox by Friday.   The boxes need to be fairly deep.  I also have several at home I can bring.

Desk supplies
Please ask your child if he or she needs any supplies.  There seems to be a lot of students who need gluesticks and sharpeners.

Have a good week!

15 days left!

The school year is rapidly drawing to a close!  There are a few items that I need parents to be aware of.

Field Trips

I have booked Explosion Gymnastics for Monday, June 18.  We are booked for 1:00-2:00.  I have also contacted the Putting Zone in Bud Miller park to go golfing in the morning.  If it rains, we will stay at Hillmond for the morning and leave school at 12:20 to go into Lloydminster.  If it is nice, we will leave school at 10:00 to go and golf from 10:30 to 11:15 approximately.  We will pack a bag lunch for the day and eat and play at the Bud Miller playground until 12:30.
I will send all this imformation in a note with the students.
We need parent drivers for this day as we do not have enough students to take a bus.  Please let me know if you are able to drive and how many students you can transport.
Cost for Explosion Gymnastics is $4.00 and Putting Zone in $3.00 for a total of $7.00.

Sandy Beach Field Trip The K-2 classes traditionally go to Sandy Beach for a fun day.  This is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26 - the last day of Kindergarten.  I will send a letter home about this shortly as well

Library Books

Some students received a note in their agendas regarding library books.  Mrs. Shirtliffe searched through the shelves today for these books and they were not found.  Please search at home again.  If the books are not found at home, please submit payment.  If the books turn up at the school, you will be refunded.  Usually the books appear as students clean up their classrooms.  It's also possible that the books may have gone to Grandma's, in a vehicle or even at a friend's house.  Thanks!

Cumulative Spelling Tests

Test #1 is Monday, June 11 and Test #2 is Monday, June 18.  The lists have gone home and are posted on the blob.  Each test is 25 words long.

Sight Word test

I will send home the results of the 150 sight word test on Thursday.  I have indicated on the sheet and in the agenda if your child improved in the first 100 words or knew less words.  Unfortunately, some students knew less than the testing in May so please take the time to study!
