Thursday and Friday this week
I will be away in Saskatoon for Thursday and Friday attending the Awasis Aboriginal Conference. The students will not have a word test on Friday but will have the test on April 30 first.
Remember that there is also a Spelling word test on Unit 24. All the students have their spelling words printed in the agenda. They are also on the blog.
Please remember to practice both individual and class oratory poem over the weekend. Our school Oratory meet will be May 10. Top 3 individuals from each grade and category (original and published) will advance to the inter-school meet on May 17.

Field Trip review
The field trip was lots of fun today! As always, the Agriculture Education Days was very well organized.
I was also quite impressed with the service and organization at McDonald's.
The bowling was great with the Grade One boys having the highest scores and the Grade Two girls having the highest scores!

April 23 update
Congratulations to Burke Beauchesne!!!! Burke has passed all 3 Levels in sight words! That is a great achievement, Burke! I don't think I've ever had a grade one student finish so quickly. Fabulous!
Other students can certainly finish this year as well so keep practicing!
Field Trip
The students are sooo excited about our field trip tomorrow!
Please send $2 for a drink at Border Bowling if they need one.
Make sure the students are wearing runners and a light jacket. No shorts or dresses please. Also, the students will not be allowed in McDonald's play area without socks so make sure they are wearing some!

Congratulations to Ainsley, Kali, and Burke for 100% in Spelling! Many others had 9/10.
Cumulative Spelling test
On Friday, May 4 the grade ones will be having cumulative spelling tests. Some students will test on all 300 sight words, some will test on 200 sight words and some will test on 100 sight words. I will send a list home on Friday with the words that your child needs to review.

April 19 Update
Wow! This week went quickly! I didn't even think about blogging until today.
Tomorrow is Games Day in grade one as our class raised $659.00 in jump rope! Well done! We had a popcorn and movie before the break for raising over $500.
Firstly, the Family Collages are amazing! Thank you for your hard work! I know it is a lot of work but the students are sooooo proud of them! I hope you will all have a chance to see the collages. They are up in the hallway and will be displayed until early June. How blessed you all are with great families! I hope this project gave you a chance to talk about family traditions, how people are related and the fun times you have together.
Secondly, we are getting practiced up for Oratory. This year is a bit different as we will have a class competition first and then 3 students will go on from each grade to the inter-school competition. Our whole class will participate with the class choral. Try to practice often with your child on both the class poem and his or her individual poem. We don't practice the individual poems very often at school.
Thirdly, thanks for being so prompt with the field trip money. A note; pre-schoolers can not attend the Ag Education days. This was made clear to us by the Exhibition staff. There are too many animals around. However, your pre-schoolers can join us for lunch and bowling.
Finally, Spelling unit words! I have noticed that there is less studying happening so try to make sure you look at the words several times over the weekend. The words are always printed in the agenda.

Happy Easter!
Have a wonderful Easter break! I hope the weather continues to be nice so the children can get outside (and out of your hair)!
